Purpose The problem that we would like to have a positive effect is the problem that all public preschools need to be funded in the United States. The causes of this problem are that people in America believe that public preschools should not be funded because it would be expensive and they feel that children at that young of an age do not need to be in school. We believe that this project we have in mind is worthwhile because it is very important for the children of our future to start education at an early age. Also, this project is worthwhile because right now President Obama stated at his State of the Union Address information about public preschools. President Obama stated that “fewer than 3 in 10 four year olds are enrolled in high quality preschool programs.” President Obama also stated that he wanted to make high quality preschool available to everyone and that our children deserve the chance at an education at a younger age. “Middle class parents cannot afford a few hundred bucks a week for private preschools,”says our President. With all of these factors being out, we believe that this advocacy topic will have real effects and it will help others, mainly the parents who cannot afford to send their children to private preschools. This project supports all of our values because we are all in studying Early Childhood Education and we all believe that public preschools should be offered. With our background and knowledge of early childhood education we all know how important it is to give young children an education starting from preschool because these are the years that are more developmental in a child’s life. This project connects us with others because it reaches out to all of the other future teachers and teachers out there who also feel very strongly about education. We have the resources, and time to support this project that we are considering because we researched many journals, research, press releases, and articles about the topic that we wanted to do. This project is well defined because we clearly state out what we are advocating for: Public Preschool Should Be Funded. Our hope for this project is that its effects will spread and that funding for public preschool will become a reality. Audience The audience is anyone who has children and wants them to get the best education possible. The most important people as the audience would be the people who cannot afford a good preschool for their children. The best person to bring about this change is most definitely the President of the United States. He has the last say and he is trying to get that across to the entire United States. Next people to try and persuade to create more funding for preschools and daycares would be the government, both federal and state. The primary audience is the President and the parents of these students because the parents can voice their opinions and explain how they feel about this funding for these programs. The secondary audience is the state and federal government because they will determine what to do with the money. The audience’s opinions vary depending on many things. The parents of young children all believe there should be an affordable preschool or daycare for these children. Obama believes that every child deserves an equal opportunity in school. We can inform them with all of the things these children can experience if they are entered into a good preschool. Also tell them all about Obama’s plan and what he plans to do so they can support his plan. Higher socioeconomic families would be left out of my considerations because they will be taxed more and the funding does not affect them.
Context Our understanding of the past and how public preschools are not offered in some states will help us understand the current situation that we are trying to change. We understand how important funding is needed for our young children and early learners for them to have a chance at a successful educational career. We believe that we need to look very far into the future, meaningmforever because public preschool should always be funded. What shapes peoples current understanding of this problem is seeing certain cities that are below the poverty line and how the children are home all day when they should be in preschool, but that option is not available to some parents because they simply cannot afford it.
Strategies The best strategy we can use to help us establish the relations we seek with our audiences and between our audiences and other affected by the problem is to educate and inform them about how important the beginning years are to a child development and growth. Some strategies to relate to the audience is let them know that we are studying to become early childhood teachers and we know how important it is to get these children into school early. We will use our educational backgrounds and our experiences of working in daycares to make us credible. Also we can relate to the audience because we can show statistics of children who went to preschool. Others affected by the problem just have to look at the information provided and hear that funding for pre schools only has pros for the children. If people want children to go to college and get a good job, they need to start when they are young and their minds are fresh. There is plenty or reliable date showing that children who attended preschool were better off in the future and went further in school. There is also information about early childhood learning and how important it is to start teaching little children.
Arrangement The text is arranged in a way to pinpoint and show the audience what we are advocating about. We are going to arrange the text in order of importance and relevance to the topic we wish to teach them about. The text and the arrangement of the text is an important and prominent part in encouraging our audience to agree with what we are saying and want to advocate along. So we will arrange the text accordingly. We are presenting them information in a way that is easy for them to understand. We will use important terms, but we won’t use the “boring” areas of the text. By arranging our work we are taking the guess work out of what we are trying to tell the audience and we are showing them what they should gain from this.
Medium So far the medium we chose to use is our Weebly website which is easily accessible to anyone with the URL. We will also work on a poster that will be a part of our presentation. Any other medium we choose to use will be not only linked to the Weebly website, but also will have the option for easily accessing it. The medium we choose to use will show and tell the audience about our topic. It will inform them but in a way that doesn’t seem like a lesson or an argument is trying to be made. They will see pictures, charts, etc of what we want to portray and also words. Both the website and the poster portray to the audience in a condensed yet effective way what we want the audience to take from our advocacy viewpoints.
